I have some very old Needlecraft magazines from my Grandmother that I cherish for the old fashioned ads and fashions, as well as the craft patterns. The baby patterns would work just as well for today's babies or reborn dolls, so I want to share them here.
The Baby's Sleeveless Jacket pattern comes from the 1924 issue of Needlecraft magazine. I have not tried this pattern yet, so I have just scanned the original photo and directions without making any changes. If you try this pattern, I would love to hear from you, and see a photo of your version! Email me at galadouceur@earthlink.net.
I'm working on another vintage pattern, and I have found that in these patterns, the "treble" stitch (tr) is actually what we now call the double crochet in US patterns. So, If you try this pattern, substitute "dc" wherever you see "tr".

Baby's Sleeveless Jacket
By MRS. A. L. LEWEN
MATERIALS required are one ball of Shetland wool or threefold Saxony, white, a spool of silk-finished crochet-cotton, pink or blue, two yards of narrow ribbon, matching the color of the crochet-cotton, and a hook that will carry the yarn or thread easily.
Make a chain of 77 stitches.
1. A tr in 8th st from hook, 3 tr in next 3 st, 1 sp, (of ch 2, miss 2, 1 tr). 4 tr, counting all, (1 sp, 4 tr) 10 times.
2 to 28. (One sp, 4 tr) 12 times (ch 5 for 1st sp ofeach row). This completes back of jacket to the neck.
29 to 37. (One sp, 4tr) 4 times. At end of 37th row widen 2 sp thus: Ch 2, a t tr in same st with last tr, ch 2, at tr in middle of t tr.
38 fo 64. (One sp, 4 tr) 5 times. This completes one front. Work the other side in same way, leaving 4 groups of tr and 4 sp for back of neck
Edge:
1. Work a row of sp, using the white yarn, entirely around the jacket, making 2 tr, with 5 ch between, at each corner.
2. A d c in tr, 4 tr in sp, d c in tr and de in. next sp; repeat, working 7 tr in each corner sp.
3. Using the crochet-thread; work a d c in each st, with a p of 3 ch between the dc in 2d and 3d tr, or middle of scallop.
Tie with ribbon under the arms, and run a length of ribbon through the spaces around the neck.
This jacket is easily made of any desired size, and is very pretty and comfortable.
